Anyone who has climbed a staircase without any difficulty has maybe never noticed how it could become an obstacle for the elderly, for people with physical disability and those with permanent or temporary difficulties in getting around.

Houses can be easily adapted so that people with mobility difficulties can feel safer and more comfortable: by getting rid of slippery rugs and ensuring that couches and chairs have firm backrests with armrests that make it possible for the elderly to gain support when standing up or sitting down. Rooms should be well lit and furniture should preferably come with rounded edges in order to prevent injury from collisions, as well as serving as support.

It is difficult to remove stairs or have them adapted. At best they may permit the installation of safety handrails or the laying of antislip flooring.

Many homeowners end up selling their houses and looking for a single storey home which better meet the needs of people with mobility issues.

Personal Access is fully aware of the reality of this situation and has therefore, since 2000, been importing products like the stair lift, stair climber and horizontal platform stairlift to meet the needs of people with mobility difficulties, offering convenience and greater practicality.

The following accessibility products are exclusive to the Brazilian market: Acorn (UK), Hawle (Germany) and Vimec (Italy).

Moreover, there is a growing concern and awareness about accessibility for thosepeople with special needs and the elderly in public areas. Facilitating access is more than just a concern, it has become a duty of care.

With the publication of the NBR 9050 standard which emerged out of Federal Law 10098 and Decrees 5296 and 5773, people with special needs are now entitled to legal protection.

It is the duty of everyone to contribute so that everybody may make use of all public areas and be able to move between floors of buildings, whether it be in schools, hospitals, public departments, offices, shopping malls, stores or even exhibition halls.

You can rely on Personal Access to facilitate access to all the rooms of your home or even adapt your establishment to conform to legal requirements. A staircase should not restrict your freedom.
